Founder of First Serve Ventures

First to Serve

I step onto the entrepreneurial court at the most critical moment—investing at the idea stage, often before revenue materialises and sometimes even prior to the first prototype. My rationale is simple: I believe in backing founders at the precise instant when belief matters most, when ideas are raw, unpolished, and brimming with potential.

My investment focus centres on B2B startups that leverage technology to address genuine, substantive challenges on the African continent. This approach is about taking calculated risks on visionaries who harbour audacious dreams and providing them with the resources to transform those visions into tangible realities.

First Serve

In tennis, the first serve represents the sole shot where a player enjoys complete control—it's technically demanding and pivotally important. High first-serve percentages determine match outcomes. Similarly, in the startup ecosystem, the early steps a founder takes before public scrutiny are fundamental in establishing the trajectory of their venture.

Consequently, I invest in founders who approach this critical juncture with meticulous precision and unwavering purpose. My funding and strategic process are designed to assist founders in:

  • Developing, testing, and iteratively refining their initial product

  • Assembling a robust and complementary founding team

  • Attracting board members who bring substantive strategic value

The overarching objective is to elevate the standard of companies transitioning to the seed stage, ensuring they are comprehensively equipped not merely to survive, but to thrive.

Serving First

At the core of my philosophy lies a profound commitment to service. Channelling Albert Schweitzer's profound wisdom—"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve"—I perceive my role as fundamentally serving founders, particularly those demonstrably committed to serving their customers, communities, countries, and continent.

No one comprehends Africa's multifaceted challenges more intimately than those experiencing them daily. I am resolute in investing in problem solvers, visionaries, and builders courageously confronting these challenges head-on. This approach transcends mere capital injection; it's about empowerment.

My mission rejects imposing external solutions or perpetuating patriarchal capital dynamics. Instead, I champion entrepreneurs who seize control of their narratives, design indigenous solutions, and drive change that is authentically their own.

Through this trinity of principles—being first to serve, helping founders perfect their first serve, and embodying the ethos of serving first—I aim to cultivate an ecosystem where entrepreneurial spirit flourishes, ideas metamorphose into impactful realities, and Africa's latent potential is comprehensively unleashed.
